Frequently Asked Questions
How are the quilts judged?
Each year, a certified quilt judge is brought in to review and judge each quilt. The quilt labels are covered and the only identifier is an entry number. First, second, third and honorable mention are awarded in each of 24 different categories. That's a lot of ribbons! If you have never entered a quilt in OQS, consider it. It is a great way to learn and grow as a quilter - and win a ribbon!
Can I take pictures of the quilts at the quilt show?
Yes! There will be also be flash drives and CD's for sale which will have pictures AND information of all of the quilts and wearable entered in the show. They are only $10 each. We have a limited supply of CD's available from previous years.
If you share your own photos online, we ask that you credit the quilt makers in your post!
If you like something in a vendor booth, please ask the vendor for permission before photographing. In special exhibit areas, check for signage to see whether photography restrictions are in place.
Can I leave and re-enter the Festival the same day?
Yes, admission is $5.00, free to OQS members and is good for all exhibits. Make sure you get your hand stamped at the main entrance for same-day re-entry.
Are there any food concessions available?
In addition to various local restaurants and coffee shop there may be some food trucks parked at the courthouse square or near there. No food or drink is allowed in quilt exhibition areas.
What Special Exhibits are planned for 2026?
This year's Featured Guild is Texas Panhandle Guild. This Amarillo-based quilt guild was established in 2022 and has grown to over 70 members who share a love of quilting, learning, and community service. This special exhibit can be found at the Senior Citizens Center.
OQS Featured Quilter for 2026 is Linda Vargas from Kermit, Texas. Linda started her first quilt in high school, piecing and quilting it entirely by hand. Now Linda loves challenges, learning new techniques, and including applique in her quilts. Linda's quilts will be on display at the Methodist Church.
What is the largest size quilt you will accept as an entry?
Quilts over 96” wide will be accepted based on available space. Because of the limited space of the venue AND limitations of the frames used to hang quilts for the show, entries with quilts of 96" wide MAY be rejected. You will be contacted if your quilt cannot be hung.
